Understand Synonyms
Motive's Synonyms allow you to create groups of words that may refer to the same item. When your shoppers enter any of those words in the search bar, they get the same results as for any of the other words in the same group. In this way, they can find what they are searching for regardless of the word they use to name it.
For example, you can use synonyms for cases like the following:
- Multiple words that are equivalent in a given context
- Irregular plural nouns
- Dialectal words
- Slang and abbreviations
- Brand names commonly used to refer to a type of product
- Common misspellings of certain products or brands
The Synonyms page
Click Search results > Synonyms in the left-side menu to access the Synonyms page. It displays all the synonym groups created in your account.
If you do not see any group of synonyms on your Synonyms page yet, you can create the first one.
You can see the following information for each synonym group:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Synonyms | Terms belonging to the group. |
| Updated | The date when the group was last updated. |
You can use the language drop-down menu at the top right corner of the page to filter your synonym groups by language.
