Manage Synonyms

Synonyms enable the formation of word clusters that can refer to the same thing. When shoppers type any of these words into the search bar, they will see the same results as they would for any other word within the same cluster.

Click Search results > Synonyms in the left-side menu to access the Synonyms page. It displays all the synonym groups created in your account. You can then create or import a new synonym group or edit or delete existing ones.

Creating synonym groups

You can add a new synonym group at any point.

  1. Click Add synonyms.
  2. In Language, select the language for which you want to create the synonym group.
  3. In List of synonyms, enter the required list of synonyms. Hit comma or enter to save a value.
  4. Click Save.

The synonym group appears on the Synonyms page.

Importing synonym groups

You can import a CSV or TXT file with synonyms created for a former search tool.

  1. Click the three-dot menu at the top-right corner of the Synonyms page.
  2. Click Import.
  3. In Language, select the language for which you want to import synonyms.
  4. In File, drop a CSV or TXT file, or click Upload to select a file from your computer. Click Import.

Unidirectional or one-way synonyms become two-way or bidirectional synonyms when using the import feature. This means that all synonyms in the same group have the same meaning and return the same search results.

Editing synonym groups

You can edit a synonym group to modify its details. For example, you can add more terms or remove existing ones.

You cannot edit the language of the synonym group.

  1. Hover the mouse over the synonym group you want to edit.
  2. Click the pen icon to the right of the synonym group.
  3. Edit the list of synonyms as required.
  4. Click Save.

Deleting synonym groups

You can delete synonym groups that are not relevant anymore.

This action cannot be undone.

  1. Hover the mouse over the synonym group you want to delete.
  2. Click the trash bin icon to the right of the group.
  3. In the confirmation pop-up, click Delete.
